European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association

The European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association (ETCMA) is the largest professional association for Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners in Europe, representing national TCM organizations from most European countries.
About ETCMA
Founded in 2002, ETCMA’s mission is to promote greater recognition, acceptance, and high standards for TCM therapies—including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and related practices—across Europe. ETCMA acts as an umbrella body, facilitating academic exchange, guidance, and support for its members, and collaborating with European institutions for policy advocacy.
Main Activities
-
Advocating for the integration and equal acceptance of TCM within European healthcare systems.
-
Establishing rigorous educational guidelines and professional standards for member organizations (including recommendations on training hours and competencies).
-
Fostering collaboration, academic exchange, and mutual support among TCM organizations and professionals throughout Europe.
-
Representing the interests of TCM practitioners at the European level and engaging with EU policy makers.
Membership and Structure
ETCMA consists of national associations, not individual members, and collectively represents thousands of practitioners throughout Europe. It is guided by a board and working committees focused on education, advocacy, and quality assurance.
Vision
ETCMA’s vision is for Chinese Medicine to be equally accepted, integrated, and available within mainstream healthcare systems, thereby benefiting the health and wellbeing of European citizens.
